"The Internet and digital technology create new possibilities for the development of cultures, education, communities and knowledge"

This video touches on the idea of digital exclusion. A concept I have never thought about. We spend a lot of time talking about how the media effects people, yet there are those who discuss how the lack of media usage effects people. i was interested to hear him discuss media literacy as part of general education.

It is an interesting video that got me thinking.

I would love to hear other opinions.

  1. Very interesting video and really brings to attention how the internet has become an integral component to our lives. The internet is growing and changing extremely fast. People without the internet or even with inadequate internet(such as dial-up) are losing out on a lot of information. Definitely puts people on different levels when trying to make it in this world.

  2. I agree Robert - seems like EVERYTHING is on the internet. I often wonder what people do who live out in the country and inner city where they do not have internet access like we do.

At work, we often have to remember that our customers aren't the most computer savvy people. So we try to avoid too much emphasis on social media. A lot of our end-users don't have email addresses or have one address for everyone. And it's usually ....@yahoo/gmail/hotmail.com. (which tells me that they don't have a website) Our ad agency tries to push more digital communications, but we have to pull it back. Our customers aren't quite ready for that. It's important to know and understand your customers.
