This link is about a documentary called: “Is Wall-Mart good for America”. What makes this documentary related to our course is that it illustrates in some points how dose Wall-Mart affects the American way of life.

Sincerely,

  1. I've seen this documentary as well as others from "Insider the Life" on MSNBC about the history and corporate environment of Wal-Mart. I always find it entertaining when I hear people that claim they shop at stores like wal-mart because it's "Patriotiic". There is nothing patriotic about wal-mart and the mere fact that their average employee retention rate is under two years is a strong determining factor of such. Wal-mart has revolutionized the concept of "sub-contracting" and most of the time, the company they readily admit that they don't know where their products derive from other than that the contract was sold out by an Asian contractor who the company has chosen to do business with. That is partly why sweatshop workers get paid so little. Wal-mart accepts the lowest bid from a contractor then turns it's head while the contractor sub-contracts out to unknown factories within the region.

  2. Although Wal- Mart prices may look good for America, I don't think they are for American employees. I sho p a Wal Mart and my uncle will not step foot in there. At first didn't understand why. And with some explanation and with video and articles I have learned why the prices so cheap and why the employees don't stick around. I don't think that they are a good company to work for and why I think some of their prices are ok, they are really not that much cheaper than Target. Just my opinion. Great videos!

  3. I hear a lot of people say that they shop at Target instead of Wal-Mart. Is Target really better that much on these issues? Certainly issues with the practices of Wal-Mart is a good reason to stop shopping there. I initially stopped shopping at Wal-mart simply because I don't like being inside them. They're horrible overcrowded labyrinths of shopping with people dashing out in front of you all the time. I find the atmosphere better at Target so I occasionally shop there myself. Target is a big company too, though. I find it hard to believe they don't share a number of the same practices we scrutinize Wal-Mart for. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad for shopping at Target. Our options are limited when it comes to shopping. Almost every store available to us is connected to a large corporation.
